Yes, I am also looking forward to this becoming be a great group. I don't think I've EVER seen an Afrocentric or all-Black online drummers' forum...ever! LoL. So let's be sure to keep this group going strong and consistent.

Feel free to begin new discussion threads.

I'm the producing playwright of the Orisha Tales Repertory Radio Theatre Company in New York and in association with The National Black Theatre, producing my latest Yoruba Dance Drama Orunmila (The Adventures of the Father of Ifa Divination). I'm currently looking for drummers and multi-percussionsts to perfom in this landmark production. Please contact me at this site. The production is to be fully mounted in July. Rehearsals will start the second week in June.

Perhaps we could start with the main categories where drumming occurs in tradtional society (Initiations, Birth, Weddings, Funerals, Farming, etc). Then explore each of these areas when it comes to Drum/Dance across various regions in Africa. Compare and constrast the different regions, in order to develop a deeper persepective on the 'ties that bind'.

My knowledge base when it comes to drumming, centers around Manding, Poro Cluster, Kru Cluster.

What about everyone else?

Does anyone have any info regarding Manding(Bamana, Malinke) drumming traditions compared to other regions like those that fall into the Poro cluster (Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast) , Kru Cluster or Akan/Baule regions?
