All of the above. Everything we experience is teaching us something and dictates our behavior. TV and radio can cut much of those distractions down so the teaching can be concentrated to parents (those that bother), other family (those that bother) and others that are closely knit in the community.

I worded my statement wrong, yes tv and radio are distractions that need to be cut out of our kids's lives. Thanks for alerting me to that.

I think we need to have a definition of what education is, because it doesn't mean the same thing to all people. Just because you attend school, does that mean you are being "educated"? Is what you're learning in school relevant to the world that exists?

John Henrik Clarke stated that education serves ONE purpose: to prepare the student to be a responsible handler of power. Everything else is a waste of time.

So, until we have a clear definition of what is defined as "education", it's an empty buzzword.

I'll let Dr. Clarke speak for himself from an excerpt of WHO BETRAYED THE AFRICAN WORLD REVOLUTION:

"When education is properly done, education opens the door for power. One of the things that we fail to understand is that our oppressor cannot afford to educate us. We live in a society where, if we are properly educated, we will not ask for power. We will take power..."

And another statement from NOTES FOR AN AFRICAN WORLD REVOLUTION:

"If the oppressed understood how power is maintained they would know that powerful people cannot afford to educate powerless people for fear that they will ultimately take their power away from them. Because if powerless people are properly educated they would become so restless they would tear the nation apart and would make claims on the nation over and above anything the nation could satisfy. What you need to understand is what education is all about. Education has but one honorable purpose. The purpose of proper education is to prepare the student to be a responsible handler of power. Any other type of education is a waste of time."

Did Dr. Clarke mean the power to change your life, the power to navigate through this complex world, the power to understand the world around us? Solomon, was empowered when he wisely ask God to grant him Wisdom Knowledge and understanding.

To start a revolution we must act.

Dr. Clarke's message was that in order to gain control of our destiny as a people across the planet, we have to begin thinking and behaving in a nationhood, race first manner. In regards to education, it should prepare you for running a nation of your own. Even if it's nothing more than controlling the real estate in your 'hood, you must behave as a nation because when your nationhood is restored, so will your culture and history.

Every group needs power to protect its own interests. When people have power, they won't have to act ignorantly and disgracefully, leading futile marches against some crackers on Wall Street, begging for justice in the subprime mortgage scandal. The fact that we still use outdated strategies in a global climate shows our political and economic retardation, naivete and stupidity.

Minister 8-Ball, can I have your permission to share this response with a group of employees who have recently set-up a team to support Black workers in their organisation. You see, they lack the vision that they are in effect should be operating like a government to actively deal with the multiples of issues that they will encounter.
