Living In Black

Bringing You 360 Degrees of the Black Experience

I have known for some time that Africans were in American before Columbus.. of course! Recently I have also been introduced to the reality that we have birth rights (HERE) that have not been addressed in our history- thinking that we all traveled here on slave ships!!

Is this a form of Black Nationalist, or a different perspective?

I think we are always faced with picking and choosing when we have the right to claim both if we choose, the continental African legacy and The ancient Black Americas legacy.

We Black people who are called Africans, are not only Africans, but the original Homo sapiens and earthlings, and have been settling diverse places in this world before recorded history (as it’s interpreted today).

There are a few things we need to clear up, and one is the idea that America was named after a Italian pickle dealer, this is unproven and is a myth! The second is, apart from its European invaders there is nothing “evil” about this land mass called America (or as our Red brothers call it, Turtle Island)!

I think there is enough room as it concerns scholarship for both, continental African studies and pre-Columbian African studies.

Meet Luzia. This is a reconstruction from the oldest dated skeleton ever found in the Americas (Brazil), 11,500 years old.

It's a form of Black Nationlism that refuses to admit they are "Black" in both the sense of skin tone and the interchangable meaning of Black to be African (since we all know they're are no non-Black Africans). I was told that the founder actually broke away from the Nation of Islam. I have a friend who is one of them, but I disagree with their ideology and I believe the evidence supports my disagreements.

We Africans/Black folk of the Western hemisphere are the only ones who have this level of identity crisis. Even the Afro-Arab in Africa is not as confused as we are. We argue over being Hebrew-Isrealites, Moors, Rastafarians, ect. The continental sisters and brothers don't have this problem. EVEN... the sisters in and brothers from the South Pacific that migrated their from Africa since time immeorial KNOW that they are African (i.e. West Paupau, Australia, etc).

As for me, I say, we are Africans/Black folk. By the way, because the friend I mentioned is in the Nationalist Black Leadership Coaltion, I'm still willing to work with him. In general, I say ignore those of their number who are not forming coalitons with us and our Nationalists/Pan-Africanist Organizations., and move forward! As I type this letter, Ben Aflek...the White celebrity actor who was one of J-Lo's recent men, is talking about dying African people as a result of the energy and food crisis. In short, we don't have time for identity crisis!

I say those who are willing to work with us on an individual level and/or our Nationalist and Pan-Africanist organizations(such as my friend above) are cool. The rest should be left alone,as we will waste too much time and energy.

peace

i havent claimed my nationality yet but im starting to do my reserach even further by looking in the dictionary at what a Moor means and (black a Moor) and found out it says it is a negro of African decent! And i found out African American is not a nationality we cant claim sovereignty by calling ourselves black, african, negro or ethiopian in this continent!

Greetings, The Moors we a group of African people, just like the zulu, Shona, Akan, etc. I take brother Runoko Rashidis view of who the Moors were...since that is supported by the most evidence. Some may disagree, but that's my view.

However, I must respectfully disagree about not being able to claim sovereignty on this continent just by what we call ourselves. This is not relavant to the power a group of people have, in relation to those that may opose them, to create their own soverignity.

What we call ourselves matter little to the oppressors...its what we have power to do that matters. Because too many of us are arguing NOT to be what we have been since time immemorial, instead do doing what nation-builders do...we don't have power to do anything! Also, note that the only type of African/Black people...as a collective who claim to be "conscious"...to argue and debate over NOT being African/Black are here in the U.S.! No other African people who claim to be conscious (as a collective) on this continent have that identity crisis. Those from the continent are amaized at how we so-called conscious "African-Americans" think we are everything else BUT Black and/or African, and the "you can't tell me nothing" attitude we have.

Since African people are dying at home and abroad, we can not afford to spend too much time on this identity crisis. Though we of the diaspora collectively have the material weatlh and resources...even though their crumbs from "masa's table...to liberate the entire African world, we of the diaspora spend too much time and energy on self-inflicted identity crisis, trying to be everything but African/Black, and frankly, arguing over turf.

The Nationalist Black leadership Coalition (NBLC) again...are NOT looking for that type of African people. We are looking for action (hence the title of the attachment).

I think it is another method of attaining financial and legal independence. the only thing is that not all of us are ready for it.

I run into too many folks who use it to further their own debauchery and criminal activity. the whole goal of attaining sovereignty is not to get over but independence.

we forget that most of us our in several stages of our mental and spiritual development. a good number of us think that whatever the government gives us is good. that is the mentality we have to break first.

Greetings. One of our Elders has just made his transition. I hope the seriousness of my statement will soak in on all readers. He was an advocate of Practical Nationalism...something an identiy crisis wont allow one to be. Garvy and later, the rest of the UNIA (who's allied with the NBLC now) did not have an identity crisis, nor get bogged down in petty arguments over why one say's they are "not Black" and other stuff. Time is running out. Those who have the evidence and the work are growing old and passing off into the spirit world. The NBLC can not wait.
