Living In Black

Bringing You 360 Degrees of the Black Experience

Thankfully homeschooling is becoming more popular in our black families.
Our children need it,especially in this day and age where many of them don't get the nurturing they need. The nurturing they can get through homeschooling will foster independence and leadership(that is if they are taught properly).

Here in Toronto,Canada the government wants to come out with a "black- focused" public school. It looks like it's going to happen. At face value it seems like such great intentions of the government to finally give us black people attention. My question to them is, why now?. Obviously if they didn't do it 100 years ago when slaves escaped here in Canada in Nova Scotia then their present motives are not authentic.
Canada has much hidden racism and it's effecting black families in Canada. The "black focused" is a way of filtering out black children who are struggling from academics and acting out violently in the school systems.

So now more the ever we need to take initiative to homeschool our children all around the world. I know it's a plunge when there are parents that are out working and have to make income. Howver that's where home-based jobs or self-employment comes in.

The changes and adjustments to become a homeschooler can be a lot to think of. However, what's more difficult then working 9-5, picking up your child from daycare or school, then spending about an hour or two with them before bed, then doing it again the next day. You would have to wait to teach them culture and spend real quality time with them at night or weekends.

If you are interested in homeschooling, I can provide a list of homeschool resources. It's worth considering.

My take on why Canada is backing a "black-focused" public school: It's one word: CONTROL.

If our adult parents were to reclaim our children from compulsory school and teach them an independent, African-centered curriculum, they would not get the "white man is God" message given to our youth.

The main issue will be the people behind it and the Negroes they will endorse to facilitate it. Seems like the same game is played north of the border as well.

Beware of the ghostface liberal coming as the great white saviour to the "natives".

Bro Minister 8 Ball, you took the words right off my computer key board! lol.

I don't trust a government trying to offer "special" schools for our children- who's devising/controlling the curriculum? Where's the funding coming from, and what are the stipulations?

Here in the u.s. we already know that the prison industrial system is linked to public schools in our neighborhoods. Until we have our own schools, where we are controlling what our children learn and by whom, it would be to our disadvantage to let them be trained for white world domination in these schools that are currently set up for them.

I am sure that this is in response to the success of schools like Marcus Garvey. I have seen Dr. Anyim Palmer's work and what he does is truly remarkable. He educates his educators on how to instruct children and they teach circles around the vast majority of folks in the public schools.

Greetings! Give thanks for your post! I am a new homeschooling parent, since January 08. I live in Sacramento, CA. My son is 8 and we were brought on this path due to the discrimination and prejudice he INsperienced in the "public" system. He was forcibly removed from the gifted and talented program and caucasoids wanted to place him in a developmentally delayed learning program, all in the space of 30 days.

I am a holistic nurse and healer and focus on self IMpowerment. Therefore, I could not let my gates be infiltrated by such negative energy. I removed my son from the madness and he is now UNschooling and detoxifying from such sickness. We have completed half of a year's coursework in 4 months and my son has become truly IMpowered! I can only imagine why the so called "powers that be" would want to control such blessed growth! I am grateful to the Creator for IMpowering me with the clarity and vision to take this path and look forward to learning and growing tenfold! Again, give thanks for the discussion. LIGHT!

This is a wonderful testament to what we can do to empower our youth when they are home/unschooled by those who love them and seek to encourage them as opposed to those who are trying to oppress our children. We bring out the natural genius in them! Keep it up, sis! I can't wait to read how much he acquires in 8 months- he'll be ready for college! :)

I agree this is a powerful testimony. We need to pull our kids out of school if and when we can. American children are being dumbed down daily. They are also trying to incorporate alternative death styles into lesson plans, text books, and lectures.

Greetings Sister,

The topic of homeschooling is one that I would definitely love to learn more about. The very structured educational system here in AmeriKKKa saps the creativity and resourcefulness from our children. I am glad you are sharing your experiences with homeschooling as more of our people will need to consider this for the future.

Greetings Sa,
I would love to get homeschooling tips. Please feel free to add me as a friend and then email any resources you have. My daughter is not even a year old, but I want to start preparing now, as I plan to home school her when she's of age.

Much appreciation for the discussion!

Appreciate your efforts Sister. My queen and I are ending our 9th year of a full-time homeschooling program. I agree with the question of "why now" and, of course, would add the question of who is responsible for the curriculum and for training/finding educators who love the genius of Afrikan children. In this day of super covert racism, the increasing levels of mentacide and the rapid expansion of the prison/work system, there are probably more sinister, tracking intentions behind this governmental initiative. Keep doing what you're doing.

Family,

Are you are familiar with the Aya Ed Institute. They have a really good program. Actually you probably are since I heard them on LIB a couple of years ago. ANyhow for those of you who are not here is the info and link.

AYA Educational Institute, directed by Afiya Madzimoyo, M.S.W., and Baba Wekesa Madzimoyo provides quality educational alternatives and resources for children of African descent. AYA's programs immerse students, parents and other adults in an African-centered educational and social environment that is rich in our past and culture. The assessments, instruction and activities are designed to prepare them to excel academically and socially. These tools enable them to succeed in their current and future responsibilities to themselves, their families, our community, our people and the world (in that order).

I learned about AYA a couple of years back. Went on their website and immediately was in awe of the program. Definitely something I will use implement into our home-schooling journey.
