During the 1960's, Imam Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin (then known as H. Rap Brown) rose to popularity as one of "the most articulate and outspoken critics of the Jim Crow South". Former Chairman of SNCC (Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee) and Minister of Justice for the Black Panther Party, Imam Jamil Al-Amin has become one of the many victims of the continuation of the FBI's Cointelpro. On March 16th 2000, Imam Jamil was accused and framed in the murder of an Atlanta Fulton County Sheriff's Deputy and the wounding of another. Although no scientific or physical evidence linked Imam Jamil to the scene, he was sentenced to 135 years.




IMAM JAMIL AL-AMIN was moved to a Supermax Prison on August 1, 2007. Imam Jamil was transferred to the MAXIMUM SECURITY FEDERAL PRISON at FLORENCE, COLORADO known as the SUPER MAX. His housing conditions remain 23-hour lock down, no human contact, silence, five social visits per month, two phone calls per month, and denial of all MEDIA requests for interviews.


Although he has no contact with them he is joined by many other POLITICAL PRISONERS who are well known Muslim leaders, as well as leaders in the struggle for self-determination...Doctor Mutulu Shakur, Imam Malik Khaba (Jeff Fort), Brother Sekou Odinga, Larry Hoover leader of Growth and Discipline(the formerly the Gangster Disciples), Dr. Malachai Z. York to name just a few. Due to all these leaders representing legitimate "peoples struggles" FLORENCE SUPER MAX is being referred to as the state-side GUANTANAMO.



IMAM JAMIL AL-AMIN's transfer into federal custody and to the SUPERMAX comes on the heels of some hard worked and fought for victories...(1) The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in Imam Jamil's favor against the prison at Reidsville in regard to a suit filed to disallow them from continuing to open his legal mail. (2) The groundswell of support for the Imam, developing into phone call ins, postal and e-mail write-ins bringing the offices at Reidsville Prison and Department of Corrections to a virtual standstill along with the periodic protest demonstrations that would cause Reidsville, the town and the Prison to shutdown..

Thank you for his address. He was on an episode of "American Justice" and they painted him as this brother teaching hate and cop killing. But the episode said just as you've said, there was no evidence against him and he was convicted anyway. Just like Mumia, Leonard, Assata and others. Death, exile or imprisonment is the way to go when you show some pride and self respect in your heritage.
