CHERYYYYYLLLLL!!!!!!
I am so sorry it has taken me 29 years to get back to you about books for you and your baby. You know I am a collector, but mostly of books too advanced in language as well as adult content for her at 13. one of the greatest books of all time is "So Longue Lettre" by Mariama Ba. This is a must have for you, and eventually even for her but, way way way down the line in her library, as it deals with the horrors of pologomy as were experienced through the lense of one African sister. According to many, it was Mariama Ba herself, and her early death is a testimony to her pain, My dear friend Bintou is the owner of Presence Africaine, one of the world's most renowned African book stores and publishing companies in the world. I phoned and she gave me a list of 3 books to start off with, as my collection is either too advanced or too elementary.
"L'Enfant Noir", by Camara Laye
"Le Contes" d'Amadou Koumba
"IL Ne Pas de Petit Querelle," Amadou Hampitu Ba
I am including some information for you about the shop. When you are in Paris, it is a MUST visit.

Présence africaine is a panafrican quarterly cultural, political, and literary revue, published in Paris and founded by Alioune Diop in 1947. In 1949, Présence africaine expanded to include a publishing house and a bookstore on the rue des Écoles in the Latin Quarter of Paris. As a journal, it was highly influential in the Panafricanist movement, the decolonisation struggle of former French colonies, and the birth of the Négritude movement.
This is just a quick start.
I hope to add a new comment to my blog sometimes this week.

Cheryl:
I'm glad to hear from you. NOOOOO....you have much to offer simply by your passion for Negritude and our opportunity to explore it together... Let me say this, it was my love affair with the brillance of the Senegalese cineaste Ousmane Sembene, and my discovery of the works of Senghor, the Cesaires, (Aime, and Suzanne), Leon Damas, etc, that lead me to enroll in my first French class. I feel the only way, THE ONLY WAY, to capture the rich nuances, musicality and spirtuality, if you will, of these writers, is to master the language they wrote in...for myself. I want no part of a third party (usually European) translator. I master the language...I master...the classics. Viola.
To answer your question, I study at UCLA during the school year, and on the community college network during the summer months. Et vous? Ou etudiez vous?

A Bientot.

On my page there is a link to a list of interesting black community radio stations with talk shows. However the list is very brief compared to what I am compiling.

I will update the list on my page though.

p.s Colourful Radio is not back on yet. They recently got a DAB license.

I was reading Sis Slaines page and I saw a comment you posted saying that you host the Bias Magazine show on Mondays from 7 -8.30pm

Firstly could you tell me if its an information/talk show, iso that I can add it to my list. Basically for the past 4 years I have been building up a list of all the Black community information radio shows across the UK.

Secondly how come its not on the Ipswich Community Radio schedule?
