Profile Information

About Me:
My queen Ena Yaa and I cofounded and are co-directors of Akoben Institute, a full-time and afterschool Afrikan centered homeschooling program in its 10th year. We opened Akoben Institute after ending a combined 22 years of college teaching to homeschool our, then, seventh grade daughter Adwoa Foluke. It became a formal institution after several of Adwoa's classmates' parents impresson on us the desire to include their children as students. There is no question that this dream would have eventually happened anyway, but conditions in the community, the needs of our children and the demands of Spirit often determine when a truly revoltionary vision will come to fruition. In the working tradition of education as a well rounded, pratical, lifelong adventure, Akoben Institute offers not only typical academic courses, wholly grounded in our interpretation of reality, but students are also able to test their genius at chess, carpentry, masonry and other "technical" skills as a normal part of their curriculum. Now, Akoben Institute also offers evening adult (& family) education classes, both at the Institute and on-line. I have lectured internationally and have written a number of books on issues confronting our community. They include: Excuses, Excuses; negroes and other essays; Chess Primer; The Sex Imperative; Homosexuality and the Effeminization of Afrikan Males; Asafo; Complementarity; Kebuka!; Mentacide; Notes Toward Higher Ideals in Afrikan Intellectual Liberation; Battle Plan; Eureason; Sesh. Nyansasem: A Calender of Revolutionary Daily Thoughts due out this coming November.

Every evening, I also send out what are called Revolutionary Daily Thoughts. They are quotes and proverbs by us designed to daily motivate us to stay clear of other's insanity and keep along the Afrikan Way. It is not a chat line, only the quotes and proverbs (and, periodically, other announcements such as for classes, new publications, coming lectures, etc.) are sent out. If you are interested in signing up you can do so by simply going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RevolutionaryDailyThoughts and clicking on the bright blue button that reads "Join This Group!" You will then begin to receive these daily quotes and proverbs. You can remove your name from the list at any time. If you have any problems, just let me know.

This fall I will be teaching an online course titled "Mentacide I" every Wednesday night from 7:30-9pm over a six-week period from October 15 - November 19. Class topics (taken from my Mentacide book) include Mentacide; Common Sense; The Hunt is On; Death Wish; Without Sanctuary; Lies, Lies & More Lies; The Gender Confused Voice of Afrikan Manhood; High Treason and Leaving Them for the Wolves. I invite every Afrikan to with an interest to be a part of this. Information and registration are available at http://www.abibitumikasa.com/baruti.htm.
Also, for those in the metro atlanta area, I will be introducing the course "Afrikan Centered Sociology" every Tuesday night from 7:30-9:00 for the six-week period spanning October 14 through November 18. Class topics include: Concepts & Theories; Culture & Society; Social Control; Family; Race & Ethnic Relations and Stratification & Inequality. Groundings With My Daughters

Young sisters, you must think deeply about the way of our ancestors. Those of ancient Nubia, Kemet and the rest of our motherland surpassed all others in their wisdom and humanity. They are the ones who warned us about committing treason against the culture and tradition that make us Afrikan, lest we destroy ourselves. Remember, there is no separation of the past and present, no divide between ourstorical interpretation and contemporary reality. Only when we are taught that the new is always bet… Continue

Independently Afrikan

taken from Mentacide and other essays "We must prove our predictions about the future with action." George L. Jackson For most of us, to step out on our own as, say, entrepreneurs, is a very frightening prospect. Because we have existed in a state of social and economic disadvantage and deprivation for so long, and whatever level of success in the “mainstream” has meant us becoming something else, we intensely fear the possibility of failure because we know where the bottom is. Mada ase Pa for your last comment on validation. The validation point comes down to community. She lacks community in her immediate surroundings (most of us do). I will pass on this information along with your book. Is there a list of information of where a child's reading and comprehension level should be based on their age.

Also, I just want to say I appreciate your honesty on you pointing out that you received a GED because sometimes it is looked upon badly in some arenas.

HTP Bredren Dua and Madaase pa,

To answer your inquiry, the sistren and her youths are in Virginia. She is having big problems with two of her youth. The younger youth is bringing home D and F's and she feel she is having some issues with comprehension. Also, the mother believes that the teacher does not like her or her child along with the principle because of her religious beliefs. She is a rasta sista and her youth cover their locks and where traditional etho/rasta clothing to school. I suggested to ask for a transfer to another class (just for the time being). I thank you for your concern. I know this is an example of a classic case all around the United Snakes.

HTP Bredren,
I have a sistah who would like some information on how homeschooling would be comparable to the requirements of the public/private schools system in regards to receiving a high school diploma. She is struggling with 4 youths, attempting to provide a proper diet (constantly fighting with the school breakfast and lunch program) and attempting to provide a healthy self image for her children while they are smothered in that school system. When she asked me the question I did not have the answer. Do you have any suggestions?
