I have been campaigning for a new law for ex-felons who have after completing their sentence have exhibited good moral character and lived an honest an upright life with sobriety and peace (P.C. 4852) for at least seven years or more but continue to be denied the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, (career opportunities, voting and ongoing belittlement) in other words they can’t move on with their life because of their past and the law. Well, there aren’t any laws that protect ex-felons from any adverse treatment and that is disturbing to me. The 13th Amendment says
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Please take the time to view the percentages of the race of people who are incarcerated posted by the Human Rights Watch from the US Census Bureau of 2000…The figures reveal the continuing, extraordinary magnitude of minority incarceration and the stark disparity in their rates of incarceration compared to those of Caucasians.

Then there is Disenfranchisement and Felony Disenfranchisement, Disenfranchisement which is the revocation of, or failure to grant, the right of suffrage to a person or group of people. This may occur explicitly through law, or implicitly through means such as intimidation. Felony Disenfranchisement is the practice of prohibiting persons from voting based on the fact that they have been convicted of a felony. It therefore restricts universal suffrage and the legitimacy of this is a matter of some controversy.
It is absolutely ridiculous that regardless to what degree of the crime you were convicted of, whether fraud, embezzlement, rape, receiving stolen property, domestic violence or murder, the justice system places everyone in the same category, unless you are one of the selected few, and yes I did a blog “Life Sentence or Life after Your Sentence”! The Judicial and CORI system needs to be eradicated and reformed.
I can’t stress enough how I believe that it should be illegal to discriminate based solely on the stigma of the label ex-felon.
If you read my life blog you will also get an understanding of my perception.
In order to make this a successful campaign, I need all supporters, those who will sign the petition, pass the word on about the petition, participate in rallies and stand up and be counted for change!
So I reiterate the significance of signing the petition, for one, my voice can not be heard ALONE, for two, there must be at least 1,500 signatures before I can give the proposal for the new law. So with that being said, help me get the word out and let’s take it to them!!!
After reading this, I am confidant that you should have some insight on my hearts desire and one of my burdens and will join me in the fight for this issue.

You may already know the sister, if not she'd be great to conect with. Her daughter is now working as a Bus driver for our public transit system. Perhaps Sis Aginah can tell you how she got her daughter back on track.
Peace to your tireless efforts

I have an interest as well in reform. My is a personal passion as one of my daughters went to jail at 15 yrs of age, but not sentenced to prison. I built a website at that time in 2000 called http://www.pray4jj.org , for parents and children to understand how easy it is to have our sons and daughters slip into this almost justice system.
Semhotep,
Sis. Marlene
